In 2013, I attended a photographic workshop organized by Stefano Santioli for the anniversary of the Kumbh Mela. We went to Mughalsarai to visit a coal factory.

Mughalsarai is an important railway hub located near Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, and it has been a center for processing coal for years.

As soon as we arrived, they explained to us that the workers were on strikeprotesting because they work more than 12 hours for less than a dollar a day.

As often happens in India, we immediately felt a sense of unease and a strange feeling that we had gone back  in time.  It was then that we understood  how much effort is required to show the  dignity of the human figure.

We only spent a few hours inside the center which representeda little story within an amazingjourney.
